🤯 Basecamp is building a fully-featured, in-browser email client…using a ridiculously small amount of JavaScript. A tiny keyboard shortcut lib, one polyfill, and boring old Stimulus/Turbolinks/Rails…
🙏 to @dhh for generously shipping source maps, amazing learning resource t.co/IEAvwjiKeO
@_swanson @barelyknown @dhh Wow so Hey’s JS distribution is smaller than the base React, React Router, and Redux libraries are. They’re shipping a full product with less weight than an empty React project carries.
Hey #WordPress friends! I am looking for someone who has a design eye and some front-end technical chops to spruce up a community-driven website. Ideally looking for someone who is struggling financial right now due to current circumstances.
RT’s appreciated, DM’s welcomed.
New post: The Cost of JavaScript Frameworks timkadlec.com/remembers/2020-04-…
Using @HTTPArchive data to get a sense of the performance cost (in both bytes & main thread time) of using various popular frameworks as a starting point
Been working on this one for an embarrassingly long time
It is a well known fact that game UI is lightyears ahead of product UI. Nice to see all the interfaces and patterns summarized neatly in one place interfaceingame.com/
CSS is 20% coding and 80% organization / naming things.
This is such a Colorado photo.
Hi @wmata! Thanks for all you’re doing to help essential workers get to work. My son ADORES Metro and has collected the Cherry Blossom visitor guide each year. Is there any way he can get a 2020 edition? We understand why you pulled them & promise we won’t try to go! t.co/SASc5UjYA7
Governor Hogan: “Now, some of you have said that the requirement to wear masks and face covers infringes on your rights. It’s not about your rights, its about protecting your neighbor. And it is your neighbors’ right to not be affected by this disease.”
Proud of my governor.
I don’t want an APP I want a FUNCTIONAL MOBILE WEBSITE
Please don’t open issues on JS repos asking why they aren’t written in TypeScript 🙁
Why you son of a…. 😳👏🏾
@kingkool68 Do what works, fuck the haters, and get better at it. Use a CSS preprocessor. Abuse pointer-events when you need to, then try to fix it later. Inline SVG is cool. Tables do get a bad rap, but have you heard about our Lord and Savior, flexbox?
@kingkool68 1. In own files (not css-in-js)
2. Component or view-specific. use libs to help specificity on more complex projects.
3. Scss / less
4. Haven’t tried css variables yet! (tho syntax looks 🤮)
5. Table, grid, flex all have their place
6. No content-in-css
Let that sink in
“Ahmee vs. AMI, JSON vs YAML, Serverless vs. Containers, vim vs. Emacs, tabs vs. spaces” No matter where you stand on these issues we can agree on one thing. It’s better to scream at strangers about these things than it is to do our actual jobs.
