I’ve been doing some CSS inspecting of some pretty looking sites, focusing on content width.

Genuinely surprised nobody seems to use the char unit, e.g. `max-width: 80ch`? Instead everybody seems to use pixels/%.

Why? Isn’t the normal advise to aim for 50-80 chars per line? t.co/b2UKrfKWeq

If you are after optimizing development, look at how developers read, not write, code. Code reading is the single largest expense in software development, and very few even talk about it.

unpopular opinion: web dev was better when stuff was simpler. even PHP, that blunt bludgeon that anyone could learn to wield (bluntly, at least), is now overcomplicated and overfancy.
