anonymousjoe managed to pull this off without touching the markup using CSS grid. I still need to wrap my head around thinking in terms of CSS grid.
GusRuss89 came up with a similar solution but used a pseudo element instead of using an extra element in the markup. That’s smart.
I updated the pen with my solution. By adding a wrapper element we can absolutely position an element with the same background color as the <main> and <aside> elements to sit underneath and stretch out to the left edge of the screen.
In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 1.5 Quibi

More often then not if there is an event in the afternoon that is more than 15 minutes away the 3 year old falls asleep 2 minutes before we arrive and then I have to sit in the car for 2 hours while they nap.
Then goodness this website is FREE.
Or good design is considering all the ways something could go wrong and smoothing those problems over so the entire experience comes off as intentional and well designed.
Good design is invisible and doesn’t call attention to itself.
