I see so much nuance in the phrase “paid in federal income taxes”. Like if someone had a $100,000 tax bill and then made $100,000 in charitable donations would their taxes also = $0? Are they a bad person by the same logic? Taxes are complicated.

@mattcampux Yea be mad at that. I’m not sure how you go about with meaningful, fair tax reform (because of money and power and all that).

@MikeWhoMikeLee Sure, and that should be prosecuted because it’s illegal. But if someone owes $1M in taxes and makes $1M in charitable donations to cancel that out would they be a bad person for owing $0 in taxes?

I find it hard to be mad at millionaires and billionaires and corporationa who end up owing $0 in taxes by utilizing loop holes in the tax law. They’re just following the law. If you wanted to see a difference pressure politicians to reform tax laws and close loopholes.
